NORMAL POV

Neka was quiet as Acha carry her by her body and to the others she was going on a raid with the others. After Acha had fish eating her bats she had took her to her cave to have a bath after her bath she was  now carrying neka to her brother Adui to watch while the pride go on a raid. Acha was hoping that by time they got back neka would be starving and would want to eat the lion meat from the raid. Unable to eat bats at this time because the bat were all in the cave safely on the ceiling.

Acha spotted her brother biting some big bone. She put neka gently down on the ground. “Neka, I talked to father. We'll have a raid today. I will not be with you today, they need me then you'll be with Adui and Kichawi for the day.” She said licking Neka on the forehead and face messing up her hair. But now neka didn’t mind she didn’t even bother fixing her hair.

“Alright be back soon.” Neka said.

Adui then stop biting at the bone and shouted in shock and anger. “What?! Why me?!”

Acha gave an angry look. “Because if it’s not you, then it will be Hizaya!” She shouted. He then went quit He knew that this was their father punishment for his behavior earlier. He awoken everyone about his hungry belly.

Neka watch as Acha walks up to her father she then half turn and scream. “Everyone here right now!” Acha scream. Everyone came as her call.

Shujaa looked at his children, then he left forward, rushing into the maze that was crack that lead to the desert. Neka watch them left and look down she wasn’t afraid of Adui but she still didn’t see herself close so she kept her distance.

Hatma blush and approach Neka. “Hey Neka when Adui guard it’s awesome.” He said softly in neka ear. “He’s funny and nice.” He said walking over to Adui who was disappointed he didn’t get to go on the raid.

Adui look at neka. “You don’t have to be afraid you know.” Adui said to her.

Adui then lay down with Hatma lying on his arm. Neka look at them and walk over to them but keeping a distance.

“Adui! Adui, tell me a story!” Hatma said watching Adui excitingly. “How about when you fought all three lions at the same time!”

“No I told you that one already.” Adui began yawning.

“Well what story then?” the hyena pup ask.

Neka listen from a distance watching the two talks. Not completely comfortable around any one besides Acha and Unyimi she stayed quit.  Neka was curious though about his bones in his mane he wore them all the time.

“What about the bones in your mane?” Neka ask him curiously.

“Yeah and what about that little bone in your mane you keep this one a lot.” Hatma ask.

Adui was glad neka was opening up to him. He made a soft expression to Neka and Hatma. He heard she gave Acha quit some trouble. “This is my first gift.” Adui said proudly. “I will always be proud of it.”

Hatma was in oooohhh. And adui began to tell a story. Neka listen and stayed a distance.

“When I was little, they were all against me. Unfortunately I was the smallest and my father did not dear so much of my skin. I was so nervous about the Day of Judgment.” Adui said to them.

This got neka curiosity. “Judgment?” neka ask.

“it’s when shujaa have cubs with litters they have to fight to have the right to live.” Hatma said.

Neka made a frown but said nothing all this made her want to do was leave and one day escape even more.

“Yes you are right hatma. I kept eating away again and again bones until they break... so I had a toothache because of it. Despite the fact that no one was with me Acha was, she secretly believed in me and gave me a lot more attention than my sisters. I remember that she was even in trouble more than once because of it.”  Adui said softly he was glad and happy to have a sister like Acha.

“Who were your siblings?” Hatma ask him.

“I had two sisters. The first was horrible; she was always waiting behind a rock to hurt me. It was she who did this to me. Lion pointed his front leg and then the claw marks on his face. The second was even worse, she didn’t stop to jump on my back to bite me saying she was eager to have the right to devour me one day.” Adui said with a growl.

“Wow can’t believe you were that small.” Hatma said. “How was judgment?”

“It was terrible... my two sisters were all against me. There was one that caught me by the hind legs and the other one has me by the throat. I was going to die and that’s where your mom pushed stones at the three of us, trapping my first sister that was biting my throat, this killed her instantly.” He told the story. “My second sister was then furious, I did not know what to do, so without thinking, I started to dig throwing any stones as I could at her but it did nothing to her, she grabbed me and tried to bite my back. It was then that I found my true strength. I struck her against a large rock, and then I grabbed her by the throat, and just CRACK! She was dead. I had never realized I had such strength.”

“Where does the bone come from?” hatma said.

“I don’t remember it all but My father came towards me and then he began to lick me, congratulating me?
No. He took me to the desert and he then consoled me. Then we talked nothing more. He gave me this bone thereafter. This bone was one of my sister’s... he told me to always cherish those who die after a battle in which we almost died. To respect them because thanks to their deaths I can live another day. A better life without those sisters I have to say.
I promised to keep the bones... since then I started collecting them.” Adui finish the story.

“Shujaa talk to you like that?” hatma said in disbelief. Neka listen to the same story but couldn’t believe that shujaa actually felt something for his dead children.

“Yes Adui replied.

“Wow…What about the other bones?” hatma ask him.

“Well, there was one time where I saved the life of Mavi when I faced three lions at the same time you remember? Another Acha gave me before a big party to celebrate the fact that I now had a mane. He! He! He! One that the vultures gave me to thank me for sharing my meals with them for the other bones I would have to think about it to remember.
Neka have you already got an attachment to objects? Have you ever painted your face or something like this?” he asks neka.

Neka look over feeling a little bit more comfortable around Adui. “You can come closer.” Adui said with a soft smile.

Neka then came next to him but not leaning on him. “Yes my mother and family. I would sleep next to her every night.” Neka said. “We never painted our face’s mom wanted us to be feared just by ourselves. The group teaches us how to fight at young age and how to hunt pry. That’s why I’m so good at it. They teach us how to fish with our tails and how to catch birds in the air. But I would like to ware face paint and carry a weapon.”

“Ha ha. We will find something for you.” adui said putting his paw on neka shoulder. “And well get kichawi to face paint your face. Who know maybe it will be something you can ware on celebrations.”

He then got up and led them.

Adui was leading them to a bones pile.  There were skulls and of different kinds and types of animals.

“How about this one?” Hatma ask holding a giant antelope skull bigger than him.

Adui smile. “No Hatma this one is too big for you and her.”

“But we can hold it together.” He said.

“No Hatma.” Adui said. Hat man put down the heavy skull and continued to look for bones.

Neka was pushing and moving bones. She then spots a desert dear horn. She walks over and picks it up with her mouth. She use it to stab and crouch down low.

Adui stop searching for bone when he relies Neka wasn’t searching he thought Neka was trying to run away again. He then turns his head and saw her pouncing up and down with a horn in her mouth. “Ha, Ha, Ha.” He laughs and walks over to Neka.

“That’s not the way you use that bone.” Adui said laughing walking towards her. Neka stop as Adui walk next to her and bind down low putting his paw on her. “When using the bone crutch down low.” Said Audi pushing Neka lower to the ground.

“Oh thank Adui.” Neka said. She was relishing that Adui wasn’t such a bad guy. But still she hopes to be free and believe killing lion and eating them was wrong.

“Hey guys look what I found.” Hatma said running with desert antelope horn in his mouth. “Adui do you think we can go to ma and get Neka and my face painted?”

“Yes I do think Kachawi won’t mind to face paint your and Neka face.” Adui said getting up leading the Neka and Hatma. “Let’s go find her.”

“Yeah come on Neka.” Hatma said with a smile running after Adui.

Neka smile and follow behind. They went to Kachawi usual resting place. She was on the ledge on a big rocky hill. “Kichawi!” Adui yell out her name.

She lift her head and blink a few times yawning. “What!” she yelled. “Cant a hyena gets any sleep around here!?”

“Sorry about that ma.” Hatma said looking up at his mother. “But we have a friend that wants to get her face painted.”

“Come on Kachawi! Stop being so lazy.” Adui said.

Kichawi look up annoyed and growl. “Fine.” She said climbing down. In a minute or two she was in front of them. “So this is the cub shujaa accepted into his pride?” kichawi said inspecting Neka. “Hhmm…. Strong cub even though she’s a female she’s bigger than any male cub.  Strong muscles and longer and sharper claws for a cub. Paws as bigger than any male cub.”

Then Hatma came up. “So what do you think me?” he asks his mother.

“I’m thinking son.” She said to him. “Her hair and fur say’s a lot to.” She said. “Hhmm…. Spikey dreads that will grow logger and thinker fluffy. Also the spikey hair on her back and color pattern on her makes her more fear as she gets older.” She then went somewhere and came back with things full of red and black paint. She then began to paint my face. “She needs something dangerous and scary. Something that strikes fear in lions hears and ages to come. She will look like the lion eater. Eaters of males.”

“Wow!” hatma said. “She looks scary.”

“Indeed she does Hatma.” Adui said to him walking toward Neka. “Now Hatma will have his face painted and while he’s getting his face painted I will show you how to fight with those bones.”

“Ok.” Neka said. Adui show Neka the right way to stab on a tree. As he did this he saw how scary she looks. Like a true child of shujaa. Her claws were out and teeth showing. She was down low to the ground with the horn in her mouth.

“Guys I’m here!” Hatma said his face was painted he looked scary as well. “I’m ready to start!” the hyena pup said. They practice and practice for hours. Adui was impress they were good fighter and hunters. Finally it became late. And the pride was back from the raid. Neka was starving now and very hungry.

Neka ran up to Acha she had blood on her. Neka stop to see the pride in full view. There was a dead lion being dragged in by Mavi and Sikitika.

“Food!” Hatma and Adui came running.

They all had blood on them. Neka watch in shock as shujaa had an arm of a lion in his mouth he left to the cave with his meal. Neka began to walk away not wanting to cause a scene still starving and hungry only serving off of bats wasn’t much.  As she began to walks slowly back to Acha cave.  Acha grab her with her paw.

“Dinner time my little Neka.” Acha said to Neka holding her with her bloody paw.

“I’m not hungry.” Neka said. Acha let her go. She knew her cub was lying to her. She could not survive on bats alone. The cub was dealing again with what she been teach by her family and group and what she felt towards the pride and her changing feelings. Acha then had an idea.

She walks over to the dead lion and tore a giant piece of meat off big enough for Neka and her. She then tore a few more pieces to store for weeks to come. She carries her pieces of lion meat to her cave. She saw Neka laid down curled up. Acha smile to herself. Neka would eat for tonight there was no stopping it.
She laid her pieces of meat in a corner and pick up Neka by her neck tuff and laid her in her arms. She then whisper in her ears that killed Neka in her state of mind. “Mommy loves you Neka. You are the best cub I’ve ever had even if you don’t love me back.” Acha said with a smile and lick Neka on top of the head. She could feel Neka vibrate in her arms trying to hide her tears from Acha. But Acha saw it and felt it. She also felt some of Neka pain and confusion. And to finish it all off she said in her ear before she laid her head down with a soft smile and tears in her eyes. “Mommy will always love you forever and ever.” that only made Neka vibrate in her arms more. She then laid her head down and pretends to sleep.

She waited a few minutes and felt Neka leave her arms. Neka was shaking as she walks. Her complete foundation shaken her eyes were wide open with tears in her eyes. Acha opens her eyes and saw her little Neka walk towards the lion meat.

Neka sat down next to the meat shanking crying with her eyes wide open. She gave a tuff fight. But Acha had killed her with love. She loves Acha and some of the pride members. She lifts her paws and grabs a piece she began eating the meat. Acha watch as she ate piece by piece shaking.  Acha sat up and smile down at her little Neka. When Neka relies that Acha was sat up behind her she turns around and with the piece of meat in her mouth.

“See mommy!” she cried in a low voice shanking with wide eyes open with tears in them. Acha walk toward her little Neka and with a soft smile on her face. Acha held her. Neka berried herself in Acha belly fur crying. Acha smile down at her little cub putting her paw on her back.  “I love you. I love you! I love you!”

Acha smile down at her little cub. “I know you do sweaty.” She whispers with a smile. “I will always love you forever and ever.”

They ate the meat together. Acha finally had broken her and she smile at her little cub. After they finish eating Neka was fast asleep. She picks Neka up by the body and laid down putting her gently in her arms and begins Neka bath. She licks Neka face and smiles. She then whispers in Neka ears. “I will always love you forever and ever.” She said licking her again licking Neka’s face paint off. “Your mine Neka all mine.” She continues to lick and bath her little rebellious cub. It has been a long painful battle with Neka but she will always be Acha little rebellious cub. The sun set and the desert warmth fill the cave with the light of the sun. Then night time slowly sets in. And so does Neka new place in Acha heart.
